Profiting from Slavery
A class action lawsuit is to be refilled against 19 corporations who allegedly benefited from slavery. The amended suit represents the decendants of former slaves, and alleges that certain companies are continuing to to hide their complicity in slavery to "maintain customer goodwill" and increase profits. The defendants include banks, tobacco companies and railroads. In the original suit the ruling judge found that the plaintiffs had failed to link the defendants to slavery and profits from the slave trade, and that the statute of limitation had passed.
