A certified class action lawsuit has been filed against Scripps Health's five acute care hospitals for allegedly overcharging uninsured patients. The lawsuit was filed in San Diego County Superior Court and claims patients were charged up to four times what nonprofit companies charge Medicare patients for the same treatments.
The class action was filed on behalf of potentially one hundred thousand uninsured patients, most living in the San Diego and Southern California region, who challenge alleged price gouging by Scripps hospitals since 2002. The case claims Scripps Health charges its uninsured patients unreasonable and unconscionable prices.
