Montreal, Canada: (Feb-20-08) A lawsuit was brought against Selwyn House School, a Montreal private boy's school, alleging that teachers sexually abused boys in the 1960s. Sources stated that the Quebec Superior Court was scheduled to rule on the class action status in April 2008, but will now, along with lawyers for the former students, review the offer first. The suit claimed that one of the three accused teachers, who was a debating coach, offered to tutor students in their homes and then allegedly provided hashish, fondled and sexually assaulted them. As part of a settlement reached, sources close to the case reported that the boy's school offered $5 million to settle the sexual abuse claims. A source at the Selwyn House School, who asked not to be identified, revealed that the institution was offering a formal apology and the money to be shared by three groups of former students, who are seeking to file a class action lawsuit.
