Federal health investigators recently determined the air over the town of Bridgeport in the state of Illinois poses a threat to human health. They found high levels of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), a byproduct of crude oil, all over Lawrence County. Since the discovery, a class action lawsuit has been filed against Rex Energy alleging it has knowingly been polluting the air with poisonous gas. The class claims the oil company has created serious risks to human health and represents a distortion of the results of monitoring activity. High concentrations of H2S gas can lead to irritation of the eyes, nose and throat.
