A class action lawsuit has been filed against First American Registry, a large tenant-screening company, on behalf of New York renters who have been barred from renting apartments due to reports on file with the Registry. The suit claims that reports of Housing Court cases that were as often as not dismissed, or won by the tenant are still on record with the Registry, which precludes many of the plaintiffs from being able to rent other apartments. The suit is seeking an injunction to require the Registry to provide updated, accurate information in its reports.
