An elementary school teacher filed a class action libel lawsuit in Ingham County against Department of Education officials who mistakenly identified him as a convicted criminal from a state list of school employees, causing the plaintiff embarrassment, humiliation and stress. The state police developed the list for the Department of Education in a new program designed to identify criminals working in public schools. The plaintiff was attributed three felony and four misdemeanor convictions. As many as 150 other school employees may have been falsely identified as criminals.
