A class action lawsuit has been filed against Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. over the company's alleged policy of requiring workers to buy and wear Polo Ralph Lauren clothing as a condition of employment.
According to the suit, this policy violates the California Code of Regulations ยง 11040(9)(A) specifically states:
When uniforms are required by the employer to be worn by the employee as a condition of employment, such uniforms shall be provided and maintained by the employer.The lawsuit alleges that the company requires employees to buy in-season fashions and that employees are subject to inspections by management.
The term "uniform" includes wearing apparel and accessories of distinctive design or color.
