A class action lawsuit has been filed against the treasurer of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150, which is a powerful union representing 20,000 members who are operators of moving equipment, cranes and other heavy construction machinery in Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa. The lawsuit was filed in Cook County Court and accuses Joe Ward of hacking into the union's computers to get personal information about the union's members. The union members' telephone numbers went to a telemarketing company that conducted a survey to gauge opinions on the upcoming union election. Ward is currently in a bitter race with current president Bill Dugan to become the union's next president. The lawsuit claims Ward illegally obtained private information for political gain.
