A former sales representative for the pharmaceutical company Novartis filed suit claiming that she and her co-workers were wrongly denied overtime pay. They regularly worked more than 40 hours per week and according to New Jersey state and federal law, most employees who work in excess of 40 hours must be paid 1.5 times their hourly wage for extra time. Sales representatives are classified as exempt from these laws, but the suit claims that the sales representatives did not sell the company's drugs nor receive commission and therefore should not be classified as exempt.
