Class action status will be sought in a lawsuit to be filed against the Province of Nova Scotia. The suit will represent nursing home residents and their families who have had to pay for health services since Feb. 1, 2001, services which the suit alleges the province should have paid for. The suit claims that the province's policies violate Nova Scotia law and the Canadian Charter of Rights. The suit further claims that the policies discriminate against people on the basis of age, health and marital status, and violate the province's own Health Services Insurance and Homes for Special Care acts and the Canada Health Act.
