London, ON: In reasons released yesterday afternoon, Justice Paul Perell of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice ordered that an action relating to the drug Neurontin (gabapentin) be certified as a national class excluding residents of Quebec. The action alleges that use of Neurontin, a prescription anticonvulsant that is commonly prescribed for off-label uses, results in an increased risk of experiencing suicidal behaviour.
Among the issues the court approved for determination are whether Neurontin is ineffective and/or defective or unfit for the purpose for which it was intended and sold, and whether Pfizer breached a duty to warn class members or materially misrepresented any of the risks of harm from using Neurontin. Another issue approved for determination is whether the class can elect to require Pfizer to account for all or part of the gross revenue or net income received from the sale of Neurontin.
It is too early at this stage to quantify the claims of class members, but it is anticipated that the amount will be significant.

Hi there my name is Jesse Robert Andrew Chapman.
I was told by my doctor when they prescribed Neurontin (gabapentin) to me that is was for nerve pain, and there was no mention of it being an anticonvulsant. At the time I had just underwent spine surgery to have some vertebrae's fused as well as I had a serious brain injury that was diagnosed by the surgeon but he failed to adequately treat it. Continuing to pump me full of 30mg of morphine through an IV every 3-4 hours, when he should have discontinued the IV pain therapy and administered my narcotic pain medication by oral dose only. Reason for switching to oral dose pain therapy is because when given morphine through an IV it makes the capillaries (small blood vessels) in the brain expand a burst which cause a massive hematoma in my brain and cause huge complications in my aftercare at home.
The date of my accident was August 11th 2010

I took Neurontin many years ago. It was prescribed to me by my Neurologist for Chronic Migraine headaches. I had horrible side effects. And my doctor just kept telling me to continue taking it that my body had to get use to taking the medicine. Till this day I still have Chronic Migraine Headaches. I would really appreciate if an attorney would contact me.
