A class action lawsuit has been filed to stop the two self-regulatory organizations (SRO) from merging. The lawsuit was filed in US District Court in Manhattan and claims the NASD and NYSE merger would be unfair to small and mid-sized broker-dealers because the new structure would limit small firms' voice on the new Board of Governors. The SROs promised the merger would benefit all firms by eliminating a number of repetitive services and provide a more streamlined form of regulation.
