Murphy Oil

A new class action has been filed regarding the spill from Murphy Oil that damaged 10,000 homes. Approximately one million gallons of oil spilled out of holding tanks after hurricane Katrina. Murphy blames the spill entirely on Katrina, but the suit claims Murphy was negligent for not properly securing the storage tank that leaked after being rocked by floodwaters. As of January 2006, sixty-four named plaintiffs have joined to file a class action suit. Murphy Oil has already paid $50 million to 5,400 individual homeowners in 1,800 homes for individual lawsuits.
