Los Angeles, CA: Hundreds of motorists in Florida, Texas and other states in the southern US, are complaining that the dashboards in their vehicles are defective because they are melting in what are considered normal weather conditions. Among other issues, sticky, melting and/or glossy dashboards are dangerous and can create a blinding glare on the windshield when driving in the sun.
The vehicles affected include but are not limited to certain Toyota Camry and Yaris models; Mazda 3 and 6 models; Lexus IS300, IS250 and IS350 models; and Nissan Altima models. While Toyota, Nissan and Lexus have acknowledged these complaints, the companies have yet to issue recalls for the affected vehicles.
It is believed that the melting dashboards are the result of the car companies using low quality or defective materials in the manufacture of the affected vehicles. However, many drivers are claiming that when they had their damaged dashboards assessed by their local dealerships, they were blamed for allegedly using chemical cleaners on the dashboards, which resulted in surface alteration and stickiness.
