Marathon Ashland Petroleum Inc.
A class action lawsuit has been filed against Marathon Ashland Petroleum Inc. in reference to explosions which occurred at a Detroit refinery during a blackout in August, forcing the evacuation of about 2,000 people Melvindale and Detroit residents. The suit accuses Marathon Ashland of trespassing, being a nuisance, negligence and strict liability, and seeks damages for injuries including forced evacuation, nausea, headaches, watering eyes and burning sensations on the skin and in the nose and the mouth.
The company uses hazardous and toxic chemicals, including oils, gasoline and hydrocarbon derivatives, and the suit alleges they failed to provide sufficient fail safe devices to prevent explosions.
