New product, Magic Nano distributed and sold in stores in March 2006 has been recalled due to health risks. Magic Nano is an aerosol spray used to seal household glass and tile. The manufacturer reported consumers complaining of breathing problems and risks of severe respiratory disorders and pulmonary edema.
Experts are calling Magic Nano a nanotechnology consumer product. Since the ingredients are not being released by the German manufacturer, experts believe that the use of aerosol to deliver the product is at fault. Aerosol spray can reduce the size of the product making toxic particles airborne for long periods of time and easy to breathe deep into lungs.
According to the Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies, there are 200 consumer products on the marketing using nanotechnology, from Skin Creams and Air Sanitizers to Sports Equipment and Clothes.
