A class action lawsuit has been filed against the cell phone content provider M-Qube, alleging it knowingly billed certain cell phone users for content they never signed up for. The lawsuit was filed in Massachusetts District Court and claims recycled numbers are passed on to new customers with previously purchased services still attached to the number.
M-Qube acts as a middleman between content providers and wireless carriers, distributing and billing for games, ring tones, and other entertainment options; the company was purchased in 2006 by VeriSign.

Cingular is my cell phone carrier. I have a prepaid account. For over a year I noticed substantial reductions in my prepaid balance without my having made or received calls. I contacted Cingular and was informed that M-QUBE had, without my knowledge, billed by account for over $90.00 of my prepaid balance, reducing my balance to near zero. Until my inquiry to Cingular, I had never heard of M-QUBE. I never purchased any additional features on my phone. This is stealing. If M-QUBE has done the same to others, I assume the amount that has been stolen is substantial.
