In 1982 the Lutheran Brotherhood began issuing various life insurance policies that allegedly promised "vanishing premiums" at some point in the future.

Because the very high interest rates of the late 1980s and early 1990s disappeared, policyholders were asked to pay large amounts of cash to keep their policies in force, or to reduce the amounts of their coverage.

The suit alleges fraudulent and deceptive practices in the sale of these life insurance policies.

The company is now operating as Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
