A class action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a group of 30 Los Angeles police officers from north San Fernando Valley. The lawsuit claims officers working at the Los Angeles Police Department's Devonshire Division have been improperly pressured by the command staff to meet quotas for writing traffic tickets. Supervisors allegedly implied that promotional advancement might be hindered if more tickets were not written. California state law prohibits the setting of quotas in issuing citations and using the number of citations as the sole criterion for promotion or demotion.
