US Government

A class action suit filed in Detroit claims the US government has not given adequate medical care to American Indians. Numerous treaties and federal laws state that health care will be provided to Indians living in urban areas. According to the suit, two-thirds of American Indians living in urban areas do not have proper coverage and metro Detroit only has one available clinic that is both understaffed and under-funded. The lawsuit was filed in US District Court on behalf of three Indians who say they suffer from serious illnesses but are unable to get proper care.
