The University of Vermont has published research in the Journal of American Medical Association, stating that taking HRT which contains the hormones oestrogen and progestin, could double the risk of venous thrombosis (blood clots that can travel to the lungs) if taken for more than five years. For older and overweight women, the risk is even higher.
