A Monterey County nursing home has been charged with negligence and elder abuse in a class action lawsuit. Monterey Pines Skilled Nursing Facility has had repeated health and safety deficiencies filed against it, which resulted in two previous lawsuits. The current lawsuit alleges that nursing home staff failed to implement preventive measures or put together an adequate care plan after a patient suffered falls, and claims that nursing homes knowingly did not provide the minimum levels of care required by the state of California. The assisted living facility reported 47 federal deficiencies, making it the highest in the county and one of the highest in the state - the state average deficiencies reported is 11. Twenty-six facilities are named in the suit and are owned, operated or managed by Rocklin-based Horizon West Inc. or its affiliates.
