A lawsuit has been filed and is seeking class action status against the cruise ship operator for allegedly defrauding passengers traveling on Alaska cruises through a series of allegedly deceptive actions. The lawsuit was filed in the US District court of Seattle and claims Holland America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carnival Corporation, bilked passengers by levying what it claimed were government imposed fines and by accepting kick backs from shore excursion providers while hiding arrangements from passengers. The proposed class seeks to represent all passengers who were charged a Jones Act Penalty for boarding the ship at a port not of the original departure point and who paid for excursions while a passenger.
