A class action lawsuit has been filed against General Electric Capital Assurance, formerly AMEX Life Assurance. The suit was filed on behalf of policy-holders across New York State who hold long-term care policies. The suit is alleging breach of contract and unfair and deceptive business practices, claiming that "it is [General Electric's] obligation to make it at least somewhat clear what they're insuring you for." The suit was filed by Cynthia Van Houten whose father held a long-term care policy from the company which General Electric refused to honor due to inappropriate licensing at his assisted-care living facility.
