The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Fullei Fresh of Miami, FL are recalling 5 ounce containers of alfalfa sprouts after evidence that they may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled alfalfa sprouts were distributed throughout the state of Florida in food service establishments
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Infection with Salmonella can also result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
