Detroit, MI: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating Ford Motor Co., concerning reports of defective Fusion vehicles.
The NHTSA received a report from a consumer in Georgia, stating that a steering wheel fell in to the driver’s lap in a 2015 Fusion when turning into a gas station this September.
After receiving additional, similar complaints, the NHTSA opened a probe, which revealed 841,000 midsize sedans from the 2014 through 2016 model years are affected.
Two other people reported that the bolt attaching the wheel to the steering column came loose while driving and had to be retightened at a repair shop.
The agency doesn’t have any reports of crashes or injuries.
While investigators are working to determine how often the problem happens, how many vehicles are affected, no recall has been issued.
