Coral Springs, FL: Florida Power & Light is facing a potential class action lawsuit brought by frustrated customers who allege that the electric company's equipment failed to handle the load placed on it during the recent cold weather in that State.
Specifically, the suit alleges that as many as 25,000 homeowners in Palm Beach and Broward counties lost power resulting from the "systemic failure of FP&L's equipment, including the wholesale failure of transformers, power lines and other equipment across FP&L's power grid in Palm Beach and Broward counties." This resulted in customers being without power in near freezing conditions for hours and in some cases days.
According to media reports, customer demand reached a record high during the cold snap, the third record setting demand for power in three days.
