A lawsuit has been filed and is seeking class action status against the bank for allegedly improperly accessing the credit information of thousands of customers. By law, a lender is not allowed to access someone's credit information without a legitimate purpose; the case contends Fifth Third broke the law because none of the plaintiffs had an active credit relationship with the bank. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of all those whose credits were checked in April 2006 by Fifth Third without their permission and claims violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

I opened an account with Fifth Third, moved from Kentucky to New York. I completely quit using them (but owed about $400) and payed payments, but every time I made a payment, my amount owed is always wrong!!! They've even said I bought something for $331 this month!!! I've tried talking to them, but have sometimes been on hold for hours with multiple holds and dodging!!!
