Exxon Mobil Corp.

A class action lawsuit was filed on behalf of Jacksonville-area residents, claiming that Exxon Mobil Corp. and a service station operator were responsible for 25,000 gallons of gasoline that leaked from an Exxon station, possibly contaminating the area's drinking water. One resident's well has tested positive for high levels of the additive methyl tertiary butyl ether. The lawsuit, besides asking for punitive damages, requests Exxon Mobil clean up the contamination, pay for well testing and pay any costs to residents and businesses having to connect to an alternative water supply or pay the costs of carbon filtration systems.
