A lawsuit has been filed and is seeking class action status against the insurance company for allegedly refusing to fully cover treatment for anorexia patients. The suit was filed in United States District Court in New Jersey and claims state law requires insurers to provide the same coverage for mental and nervous conditions as for physiological diseases. Aetna has noted eating disorders are not biologically based and have refused to cover mental illnesses that they say do not have a proven physiological basis.
