A class action lawsuit against the chemical manufacturing giant DuPont will be allowed to proceed, following a ruling by a US District Court judge on October 9.
The suit was brought by residents of Penns Grove, Salem County, New Jersey, who live near DuPont's Chambers Work plant. They allege their water supply was contaminated with ammonium perfluorooctanoic - (PFOA) also known as C8. There could be as many as 15,000 plaintiffs in this class action.
Residents who brought the suit claim that DuPont's Chambers Work plant in Deepwater contaminated drinking water supplies of the Penn's Grove Water Supply Company (Salem County) as well as private residential wells.
