A class action lawsuit has been filed in Honolulu by a part-time teacher alleging the Department of Education in Hawaii underpaid thousands of part-time temporary employees over the past 10 years. The teachers should be eligible for a pay scale that links daily wages with that of regular teachers. The lawsuit argues that pay for part-time teachers is tied to the substitute teacher scale. The Circuit Court recently ruled that substitute teachers were underpaid and eligible for back pay therefore part-time teachers have also been underpaid.
