I have noticed, and others, that my hearing in my right ear is not so good anymore. Also, my teeth, which is quite embarrassing. I have only 4 teeth up top left and one missing so far on the bottom, but a lot of decay. I brush regularly. I read up on dilantin, and tooth decay was a possible side effect. Also, my speech a lot of the times I have to correct myself, because I'll get to talking and all of a sudden my words will slur all together. I have been taking dilantin since I was 19, and will be 37 next month, is that too long to be on one medicine ? Knock on wood, I haven't had a seizure in 12 years.

I'm 36 years old and prior to taking Dilantin I never had problems with my teeth . Two years into my treatment with Dilantin I began breaking my molars and eventually one side tooth . And now, all of my teeth have been affected by the side effects of Dilantin. I'm having to go in and do repairs to all of my teeth. This is costing me huge amounts of money and has ben extremely painful due to infections, absesses, teeth breaking and more . Most of my molars have ben broken, I'm having bridges put in for those . The rest are being saved by root canals and crowns . I still won't know all the damages until my teeth, the ones I'll have left if any, will stablize over time . Dilantin has been nothing but a nightmare .

Dilantin has enlarged my liver and cause gum disease so badly that I had to get false teeth both upper and lower at the age of 17. No one was told about any of these side effects when I started taking them at the age of 6. I found out in my mid 30's and it looks like I will be on Dilantin the rest of my life. They help control me epileptic seizures.
