A class action lawsuit has been filed against the cruise line for allegedly violating federal wage laws. The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Seattle, WA and alleges Holland America required employees to pay the cost of flying to meet vessels to begin one-year contracts.

The cost for one employee was nearly one-third of the money the bar attendant was due to receive under his one-year contract. When the employee failed to pay the full $2,119 that the cruise line demanded of him, he was fired. Nearly 7,500 Filipinos could be eligible as part of the plaintiffs' class,
