Minneapolis, MN: A class action lawsuit has been filed, on behalf of a San Diego consumer and a proposed nation wide class of consumers, against ConsumerInfo.com, Inc. in federal court in California. The lawsuit claims that Consumerinfo.com, Inc. violates California consumer laws by misrepresenting in its Internet advertisements that it offers "credit scores" used by lenders in determining the creditworthiness of consumers, when in fact it does not sell what it advertises. Rather, the complaint alleges that ConsumerInfo.com sells a "credit score" based on an in-house scoring system that is not sold to lenders and is not used by lenders, as actual credit scores are, in determining consumers' creditworthiness.
The lawsuit asserts that Consumerinfo.com, Inc.'s advertisements at its Internet sites, www.freecreditreport.com, www.freecreditscore.com and www.consumerinfo.com, violate California consumer laws by misrepresenting that Consumerinfo.com, Inc. offers a credit score used by lenders in determining consumers' creditworthiness, failing to deliver credit scores used by lenders as advertised and failing to disclose to consumers the truth about what the company actually sells. The complaint states that consumers who purchase their "credit score" from ConsumerInfo.com, Inc. do not receive an actual credit score used by lenders.
The lawsuit seeks to protect consumers who have been harmed by the Defendant's sharp business practices of taking consumers' money through deception and to protect the interests of the class and the public in truthful advertising about credit scores that are so important to consumers, especially in these difficult economic times.
