A lawsuit has been filed and is seeking class action status against Canada's fifth largest bank alleging unpaid overtime to nearly 10,000 current and former workers. The lawsuit was filed in Ontario Superior Court and claims the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) policies regarding overtime violated Canada's labor laws.
The suit alleges tellers, bankers, and account executives are consistently required to work additional hours in order to complete the common duties of their positions, yet discourages non-management employees from billing for or making overtime claims.

I was told by the district manager that I get paid my salary only and I'd better work however many hours it takes to get my job done. Often I would work 50 hours at the office, come home to spend a little time with my kids, then work out of my home. Software was provided. There were many nights I even slept at the bank - work a couple of hours, then rest, then work, then rest - until the staff arrived in the morning and we'd begin our new day. Finally on March 26 '98 I had a breakdown during a conference in Ottawa. I have been on longterm disability ever since. I knew becoming a branch manager would be difficult, but I had no idea the demands would be impossible.
