Santa Clara, CA:A consumer fraud class action lawsuit has been filed against Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc, alleging the restaurant chain deceives consumers regarding the ingredients in its food.
Filed by Allison Pappas of San Diego, individually and for all others similarly situated, the complaint alleges in 2015 Chipotle engaged in a publicity campaign claiming that it is the "first national company" in the food industry to serve a menu that contained no genetically modified organisms (GMOs). However, according to the suit, Chipotle items have never been free of GMOs.
Pappas further claims that Chipolte serves meat products from animals that are fed on GMOs like corn and soy, that its tacos and burritos are often served with sour cream and cheese from dairy farms that feed GMOs to animals, and that the company sells Coca-Cola and other soft drinks made with corn syrup, also a GMO.
Pappas and others in the class are represented by attorney Stephen B. Morris of the Law Offices of Stephen B. Morris in San Diego. The lawsuit is US District Court for the Southern District of California Case number 3:16-CV-00612-MMA-JLB.
