A group of homeowners affected by defective Chinese drywall have launched a potential class action lawsuit against US Home Corp., Greystone Nevada LLC, Lennar Nevada, Georgia-Pacific Gypsum LLC and Georgia-Pacific LLC.
The lawsuit is alleging negligence, product and strict liability, breach of contract and breach of implied warranty. The plaintiffs are seeking damages in excess of $10,000 and class action certification of the suit.
Lawyers for the plaintiffs suggest that between 3,000 and 5,000 people may be eligible to join the suit. They allege that affected homeowners have suffered or are suffering from a variety of medical problems as a result of exposure to the defective Chinese drywall- everything from nose bleeds to respiratory problems.
It is estimated that more than 1,000 people have reported health problems associated with the drywall to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, across 24 states.
