City of Chicago

Anti-war demonstrators are seeking class action status for a suit filed against the City of Chicago. The suit is in regards to the protest involving more than 10,000 people that took place on March 20, 2003, during which more than 200 people were arrested despite the claim by plaintiffs that the protest was peaceful and the police had agreed to let the demonstrators march. The plaintiffs claim that the police retracted their permission for unknown reasons, and they are claming for damages, legal fees, the return of confiscated property, and clearing of the protesters' arrest records.

Update
A U.S. District Judge granted class action status to 800 anti-war demonstrators who filed a lawsuit against the city over arrests at a 2003 protest. [MERCURY NEWS]
