Canadian Federal Immigration Department

Class action status is being sought for a lawsuit filed against the Canadian federal immigration department in regards to the new requirements for identification cards. The suit alleges that the new requirements have caused irreperable harm and amount to systematic discrimination. The new laws require passengers from some flights to have a permanent residence card, while those from other countries do not require the cards. There are 46 plaintiffs in the suit to date, and each are seeking $50,000 in damages from the federal government. If granted class status, the suit hopes to cover between 50,000 and 100,000 people in similar situations across the country.
