A class action suit has been filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia against the provincial government on behalf of parents seeking a refund of unlawfully collected school fees. Such special fees are allegedly in contravention of the provisions of the School Act of 1996 which notes students who enroll in a course such as woodworking, home economics or art, as part of his or her education program leading to graduation, the school board must provide, free of charge, the materials necessary for successful completion of the course.
