A class action suit has been filed against Bayer Corporation and its Cutter Biological division, Baxter Healthcare Corporation and its Hyland Pharmaceutical division, Armour Pharmaceutical Company and Alpha Therapeutic Corporation. The suit was filed on behalf of estimated tens of thousands of hemophiliacs from countries outside the United States who were infected with HIV and/or Hepatitis C from blood products manufactured within the US. The blood products, known as factor concentrate, Factor VIII and Factor IX, and were manufactured and sold in the US and exported to other countries. The suit also alleges that the defendants avoided recalling and/or warning about the tainted blood products after they had been found to be dangerous, and continued to market them as safe.
