Oct-16-02: A class action lawsuit has been filed in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador against Bayer Inc.
According to the Statement of Claim, " the Defendant was negligent in the design, development, testing, manufacturing, licensing, marketing, distribution, monitoring and sale of Baycol".
Complications attributed to Baycol include rhabdomyolysis, a condition in which muscle tissue breaks down and passes into the blood stream causing kidney failure and eventually death.
Although it was recalled in Aug-2001, it appears that Bayer may have learned of the serious side effects of Baycol long before that.
