A lawsuit has been filed and is seeking class action certification against the leading provider of high quality private label organic milk and butter alleging its products are not organic. The lawsuit was filed in St. Louis and claims Aurora Organic Dairy fails to meet federal organic standards. It claims the dairy company sold milk labeled as organic, at prices much higher than non-organic milk, when it knew they did not reach standards for organic certification.
USDA officials found Aurora Organic Dairy had not ensured its cows were converted to organic cows, which involves the amount of organic feed the animals consume. Company officials said they were selling off 1,000 cows from its farm in Platteville that were in question.
