American Express

Class action status is being sought in a lawsuit filed against American Express on behalf of Canadians who have had an American Express credit card since March 15th, 2001, who have paid their American Express account via internet or telephone. The suit was filed by a woman from Montreal who alleges that the company has been charging late fees to customers who pay their bills on time on the internet or by phone. The suit claims that although the funds are withdrawn from the account on the day of the transaction, the company claims it didn't receive payment until later, and charges the late fee.
