A class action lawsuit has been filed against the hospital for allegedly charging patients more for services than for patients with health insurance and thus violating the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act. The class claims that when Alton treated uninsured patients, it deceptively failed to advise or intentionally concealed that patients would be charged for healthcare at rates which were unreasonably high. The hospital inflicted financial harm by collecting or attempting to collect amounts greater than reasonable and necessary.
