A lawsuit has been filed against the Squaw Creek Mine owner alleging dumped waste caused physical ailments to nearby residents. Starting in 1965, Alcoa disposed hexavalent chromium sludge and coal tar pitch at Squaw Creek. The lawsuit seeks unspecified monetary damages from Alcoa for negligence, infliction of emotional distress and loss of consortium. The lawsuit was filed in Warrick County Circuit Court on behalf of former miners and their families.
