Santa Clara, CA: ADT, the international residential security company, is facing a consumer fraud class action lawsuit alleging the company overstates the safety of its systems.
Filed by Santiago L. Hernandez, individually and for all others similarly situated, the lawsuit contends that despite claims by ADT that its home security equipment and monitoring services use the most innovative and advanced technology on the market, ADT's wireless signals are both unencrypted and unauthenticated, and unauthorized third parties can easily intercept and interfere with them.
According to the suit, Hernandez and other ADT consumers in the class are more vulnerable and less safe than ADT leads them to believe. The suit claims violation of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, negligent misrepresentation and unjust enrichment.
Hernandez and others in the class are represented by attorneys Jonathan M. Stein, Jorge A. Amador, Adam D. Warden and Manuel A. Miranda of Saxena White in Boca Raton, Florida. The case is US District Court for the Southern District of Florida Case number 9:16-cv-80335-WJZ.

ADT is a fraud, and their customer service is incompetent.

June 10th, 2022 An ADT representative/ technician arrived at my property to view inoperable cameras. All 3 cameras have not worked for almost a year. Sound and Wi-Fi is not optimal with these cameras. One of which is a safety hazard (per the ADT rep Randall Wheeler) and has bare wires exposed that I attempted to put tape around. I was told I needed an extender because none of the AT&T routers work with ADT. If I don't do that then I must PURCHASE some sort of Google extender which would cost me $411. So I've been told I need to pay for cameras that do not work and one of which is not to code and is a fire hazard. I took time off from teaching to accommodate ADT's appt. Their lack of customer service is deplorable and the fact that they will not release me from my contract and are penalizing me for over $3000 is absolutely criminal and fraudulent.

In Nov 2016, an ADT installer with Defender, Inc. named Christian Hoffman came to my apartment and installed an ADT Home Security System with One Camera and several window and door sensors. I signed an ADT contract and purchased ADT equipment. In 2020 and 2021, I noticed that voice recognition technology was being used to communicate with me from my AT&T cell phone and AT&T VOI phone accounts threatening me, my children, my grandchildren and I was being stalked to and from my home. My Smart TV and Internet websites were being redirected to harassing content and I was being discriminated against based on my national and religious identity as an Irish Catholic. I soon discovered that a Honeywell Resideo device had taken control over my residence and all of the devices within my residence, including my HP laptop while I attended online classes at a local college with Zoom Meetings, as well. This Honeywell Resideo device concealed my cell phone on my internet and my college account stated that my cell phone was not used to access my account in over one year. Hard to believe since I used my cell phone daily to access my student account. I soon learned that none of my landlords voice messages were getting through and I was receiving harassing phone calls disguised as people I had been doing business with, but it was not really them with the VOI technology. Soon, I noticed that my private conversations were being disclosed as "negotiations" between Irish Protestants and the British Government. I LITERALLY HAVE BEEN HELD HOSTAGE, HARASSED, & THREATENED IN THE PRIVACY OF MY OWN RESIDENCE BY HONEYWELL RESIDEO. There is nothing in any contract that I signed with Christian Hoffman or Brent, the assistant manager at 708-932-6905 that I was purchasing anything other than ADT Security Equipment. Had I known, or if the contract stated, that I was purchasing a foreign-made device controlled out of England with U.S. contractors. I would have never signed that contract. I would like someone to please file a lawsuit against ADT and Defender, Inc. on my behalf for all of my money back, plus punitive damages in the amount of $10 million. I will agree to allow the attorney one-third of my monetary award. Please help! Eileen Doherty, 8507 South 88th Terrace, Building 5, Unit 206, Justice, IL 60458 - 708-552-5480

ADT is not practicing our agreed contract. They are charging extra money out of my account without my permission. I have confronted the company many times about this and have received false promises that the overages would be returned to my account within 24 hours on more than one occasion. They have violated my consumer rights and our agreed business contract. I was given the name and number of a supervisor; (Alkifa Toriba 904 564-5295) who will not return my calls. All ADT wants is money without living up to their contract. I would like to litigate.

I just received a claim settlement check from ADT that I won't cash. After several months of bickering about my contract was being fulfilled. I caught them sending a fraudulent contract to collections and after I called their sub contractor The Defenders in Colorado Springs , Colorado. After asking 42 minutes of questions I was able to establish that the contract was bogus and after I spoke to Rhonda Thomas at ADT explaining that I too had been recording calls and she may want to review my conversation with Michael #23232 at The Defenders and please call back. She never has called again. I did experience that I was locked out of my phone carriers account when I went to obtain call logs. So I went down to my providers office and retrieved them today because my phone had been hacked and the recordings and ADT calls were either stolen or are inconsistent with my device compared to my phone logs. I also noticed that during the period of time that I was going through this that I was receiving a lot of bogus scammer calls. Until I changed my number a couple of days ago. It's sad that a company whom one would entrust for security purposes is actually the biggest crook in the country. I want a piece of these guys.

In June 2016, my husband was shot in our front yard(in front of camera #1). I called AT for footage, was told by a CSR that our cameras worked since 6/12, this happened on 6/28. The reasons for the cameras in first place is because we lived in a rough neighborhood and it was security for us. at that time we couldn't afford to move. the cameras was the only option we had.

ADT SECURITY IS A FRAUD. MY BUSINESS GETS BROKEN INTO, AND THE SIGNAL NEVER GOES OUT.
WE ALSO REALIZED THAT THEY WERE NOT GETTING A CONNECTION WITH OUR ALARM FOR ALMOST A YEAR.
NONE OF THEIR SENSORS EVER WORK EITHER.
WE'VE BEEN BROKEN INTO 3 TIMES, WITH THE SUSPECT SPENDING 15 MINUTES IN THE STORE, AND THE ALARM NEVER GOES OFF.

We received a flyer offering a security system with ADT for $99.00 installation and a monthly bill of $27.99. We were only interested in the basic service and we made that very clear when the tech arrived. We asked for the system to be connected to our landline. After the installation was completed we were asked to hit a phone pad confirming the installation and were told we would receive our contract the next day via email. The installation was on August 6, 2018, we did not receive the contract until August 11, 2018 and when we reviewed it the tech upgraded us to a cell connection with a monthly payment of 48.99 per month!!!!! The company, btw NOT ADT but Defender, would not allow us to cancel because it was past three days, however how could we cancel earlier as we did not have a copy of our contract until five days later.... we have tried many times to have this resolved through phone calls but have been treated extremely rude and no one will help us. We called the fraud department at our bank and they are investigating but we do not trust this company and fear further problems down the line. How can they stay in business operating like this? We want to be part of a class action suit. This is downright FRAUD!!!!!!

I have had a Bad experience with ADT. I canceled within the three day period. They claim that because I said something on the phone that this gave them rights to keep my money. They never installed the cameras. The salesman Mathew Price (Matt) claimed he would be back to install when I insisted that theses were cheap cameras and that I already had better ones. I did not want them. He stated they were outdoor cameras
After a attempt to take the money off of the credit card with no success.
I figured maybe I could at least get them to install them. When I scheduled to have a service tech come out they said they donot sale outdoor cameras. So again I was given false information to obtain money. Would this be Grand Larceny?
So I am out of over $2700. Plus a monthly charge of 59.99 or more appearing on my credit card. Someone please help.
Would like to join the law suit.

Defenders let my account go delinquent then sends my account to collections. My account was set to auto pay. I got a letter stating that I needed to update my account info so I called ADT and was told everything was fine and current. Months later after having an issue with my panel I call ADT and they referred me to Defenders who told me that my account was delinquent, had been sent to collections. Collections wanted almost $2000 bucks from me. I called complaining to Defenders and after being transferred several times got some lady who stated they had transposed the numbers on my contact number. She states I'm still on the hook for over $1000 to reinstate on a $170 amount owed. This is criminal!!!! Someone help me!

I am a new customer of ADT home security system. I am having a really horrible experience. Before installation, I was told by the manager, Joe that I had to pay a $48 monthly fee for the wireless. I am going to get 14 window sensors and 4 door sensors for free, a $100 visa gift card, 2 free wireless keychain remote with panic button, and free home security system. A lot of people warned me to be careful with ADT, so before installation, I called customer service again to confirm the price. The lady confirmed the price and told me to tell the installation guys to only install the above equipment so that I won't be charged more. On the installation day, the guys came to my home and asked my husband to pay more than $2000 for equipment. I asked my husband to give the phone to the installation guy and told the guy that we only need the basic equipment. But in the end, my husband was pushed to pay $581.44 for the equipment and $56 for the monthly fee. The installation guy told my husband that we can cancel the service in 6 months for free. The monitor never worked, the lady called me after installation twice when I was at work, I told her the whole horrible experience, and she asked me to talk to the defender. I declined because I did not believe the defender would help to solve the issue. I talked to the defender on the day they came to install clearly that we only need the basic equipment as I was promised by the manager, Joe. I asked her to ask the customer service to call me back during my lunch hour twice due to the horrible installation experience to solve the problem, and nobody called me back until today I finally got chance to call the customer service. I talked to the manager, Khyler, (ID: 17967) and she was very rude and basically only told me that we have to pay $581.44 for the installation of 13 sensors. I said to her that I was told that 18 sensors will be free by the Manager Joe and the lady who confirmed the price. I asked to talk to her supervisor, and she declined and told me that she is the only supervisor. Then I asked to cancel the service because of the not working monitoring system, a horrible installation experience, and very poor customer service. She told me that I could not cancel it for free.

We had ADT install the wireless Pulse system in a home we were building. They had a hard time getting a signal to our unit as we are way out in the country between towns.
Initially, the pulse system worked. The app on my phone worked, and I got calls when they would lose a signal, etc. However, this October, when my husband drove to the property to check on it, he noticed two of the open/close sensors had fallen off of the doors, and the Pulse Master Keypad was showing offline/no signal. I called ADT and explained the issues. While the sensors that were installed were covered under warranty, I was informed I would be charged a trip charge. No trip charge would be necessary if the units had been installed correctly the first time.
As to the loss of signal, when the technician arrived, he looked at the panel and told my husband he would have to replace it with a model that would not communicate with the Pulse equipment installed in the house. He said they had made changes locally in the area to their transmission equipment and that was what caused the issue. So, the Pulse app on my phone does not work, nor do the key fobs for setting/disarming the system. When I log in to MyADT as they have instructed, it shows the system on test. We were told by the technician when he was here that if we installed a land line we would be all set, they could come back out and hook us up to the land line and we would have no more problems. We also wanted to install cameras, so, we went ahead and installed the land line. We were told the only way to get a good camera signal was with a land line this far out. We were told by all three technicians that had been out to the property that we needed the land line.
I called ADT yesterday to ask about installing the cameras, and getting hooked up to the land line. I was passed from dept. to dept. They finally sent me to the DIY Dept. No kidding, that is what the operator called it. They informed me that they no longer service this area, due to the merger with Protect 1. They have a non -competition agreement, and can not schedule technicians for service calls in this area.
So let me get this straight, I have an ADT Pulse system that is not functioning, due to changes they made externally. They will no longer service it. We paid a lot of money for this system. When I asked if the system was being monitored, I was told it was. I am being charged $52.99/month for the Pulse monitoring, but since the Pulse system is not working I believe I should only be paying for the basic monitoring at best if it is indeed working.
I don't believe it is actually being monitored however, because when I go online it shows no activity and we have been working up here since October. Lots of doors/windows open etc.
Unfortunately this is all taking place only one year into our contract. And because of changes they made, not because of anything we did.
I am fed up with these corporations that take the money and run, fast and far. Stay far, far away from this company. They are unethical at best, and perpetrating flat out fraud.
I will be making several more calls to ADT today to try to get some resolution, but I don't expect any,
Please add me to the lawsuit.

I have had problems for over a year with ADT. They (ADT) continue to deduct from my account but have found out that there is NO COMMUNICATION between alarm and ADT for almost a year! Many technicians have come out and leave scratching their head. I spoke to ADT and they said they got a transmission on Nov 26th of this year. My ass, cause my birthday is Nov 25th! hello, I might forget alot of stuff but a day after my birthday, not a chance. This is looking more and more like a scam. ADT I hope you're getting this, cause I plan to fight it to the end.

No need for class-action suit, you would all win in any small claims court. When you cancel inform them they no longer have your permission to charge your credit card and pay them nothing.
They may send you to collections and simply make them take you to claims court. When you win, make them repay your court fees. Easy. Hit them where it hurts most - pocket.

I was at work when a random ADT salesperson showed up at our home. My husband bought into his service, and they installed the system that day. They started our expierience by installing the huge keypad right in the middle of our foyer, then running the cord through a second wall into our living room, and bypassing an outlet just to put a 4th hole in our wall for the power cord. Our motion sensors NEVER worked a single day, yet they wanted to charge us $85 to come out and repair/replace them. Then during our 3yr contract (which continued to raise in price substantially each year), the battery inside the code box died three times. Even though the unit was plugged into the wall so the battery should have just been in case of power outage, the system would beep loudly every 45 secs until the dead battery was replaced. The numerous times this happened, the customer service rep told me to remove the battery and they would send a replacement. It was almost impossible to remove, and the battery was leaking battery acid and burned the crap out of my fingers. The third time I even threatened to smash it with a hammer before I would tske the battery out. They were going to charge me for a service call to come out and replace the leaking battery. I'm no expert, but a battery should last the entirety of your 3yr contract when it is supposedly just for backup anyway. We were never able to get the certificate of service from them so we could not even benefit from a discount on our homeowner's insurance. Absolutely the most dishonest company we have ever done business with. They deserve every lawsuit that can be brought against them. I am adding our names to the lawsuit for sure!!

ADT Alarm Systems
Avoid this scam at all costs. They have an ad out there that talks about a quality system at a low cost. They get you on the phone and walk thru a fairly long sales pitch. Everything sounds great. (Although it is a 3 year agreement). They tell you about all the wonderful things you will get. You set an appointment after they collect $100. They promise you a $100 gift card, $1072 in free equipment, and monitoring for $28.00 a month. The install guy shows up. He is a nice guy, introduces himself, does a security evaluation, knocks a hole in the wall for the alarm screen, then tells me he can't run the wires in the wall so I get a free push button screen with a battery or a cable on the outside of the wall.
Now I have a hole in the freshly painted wall. It's not where I wanted the panel but is in a location where there was power (that he can't get to because of a cross beam behind the wall) . He has been in my home for 2 hours. He sits down and walks thru all the things he recommends. After giving me the discounts the equipment will only cost me $400 a month for 4 months. Excuse me? Could not have heard him correctly. I have a small two story condo with a front door, one sliding door, and 6 windows. I looked at the individual prices for the equipment. The $19 sensor was priced at $149, the siren was $229(it has a flashing light Yoo-hoo), glass break was $149, etc. Prices were at least two times what other companies charge and 4 to 5 times their value. And I can't even tell him to leave because he knocked a hole in my darn wall. Now it will take another two hours to install. 4.5 hours to get a crappy hard wired system with equipment that was "state of the art) in the lat 1980's that costs a fortune. Stay far, far, away from this rip off. Pictures of the hole in the wall and the front entry area where I wanted the panel.
As a side note, The home had an existing ADT system that was only a few years old when I bought it so all he really had to do was add a few components and reactivate it.

This company preyed on my elderly mother with dementia. They came to her door and talked her into this security system which she was not even capable of operating, so she disabled it. She paid for this piece of junk for a couple of years before we, with great difficulty, got ADT to get it out of her house and cancel the contract. They are totally lacking in principles.

I'd like to be added to the class action law. On 10/27/17. Adt installed 2 cameras that I paid for in the amount of $725.95. One was a ring doorbell camera which they kept harping was the best camera for the front of my house and the 2nd one was a dome for the back. On the 28th October the Ring camera began having problems. I contacted the Adt installer I got NO response. I then tried for days to trouble shoot the problem per to no avail. I then contacted Ring for a solution where as I spent hours on the phone until they realized it was defective. They said they would send me another camera to replace the defective one. At that point I was fine, until the next day I checked my email; Ring stated that they atrached a $1 Fee on my credit card and threaten to cgarge me the Full Amount of the camera if I didn't return the old one. I couldn't believe what I was reading in my email. Basically ny credit card information was given to Ring without my Authority. At this point I new I had to request a refund of my money a request that they come get they're cameras. I emailed the CEO of Adt Timothy Whall, then I contacted Neil McPhillips at NO response, I then called Adt Customer Relations Dept. I spike with the Mgr Eileen . Who BOLDLY stated to me wgen I asked about a Refund abd requested they come get these camerasED She said it's not there's they're mine I paid for them. And that I wont' be getting back my and they don't want the cameras. I then told her I will be cancelling my services she said I'm under contract and I will be charged a cancellation FEE. Unbeknownst to me I DIDNT ASK OR NEED A CONTRACT!!! Ive been with Adt fot 13 yrs and I paid my quarterly payments timely. This company PRACTICES ARE UNETHICAL. Now I have to find another Security Company to replace them BECAUSE I CAN LONGER TRUST ADT. They cost me Time, Expense, Trust, and Migraines. Please contact mr thru my e-mail.

I had an ADT system installed in our home and when we were transferred out of state I called to cancel the account. They gave me a hard time and told me I still owed money since I supposedly signed a three year contract. We closed on the home 8/1. They took additional funds out on 8/28, after we sold the home and they signed up the new owners. Do they're taking money from me AND from them. I want to be part of this suit. They are crooks. They lie, they change their stories from one call to the next. I begged on rep for s supervisor and he absolutely REFUSED to let me speak to one. Then the threats started. I owed them money and they would continue to draft from my account. I want them stopped. Tell me how to join this suit. Please help me.

Where I live we used Pulse system. ADT discontinued that service due to AT&T issues in January 2017. The did not notify their customers. Said they did. but did not. It was an extra 4#0 something dollars per month for a service that did not work. I found out it is for the entire county of VanZandt Texas. If you did not have a land line as a backup or primary. I recently had an alarm system put in my house, I was never told how much the system was going to cost no matter how many times I asked them. I did not find out until they had put the system in. They were here to screw me out of the max. amount of money that they could possibly get, nearly 10,000 dollars. They put 8 window sensors on my back porch , which is 6 feet by 13 feet long and then another sensor on the door leading to the porch.
Four of the windows on the porch are less than a foot wide. The techs did not know where to put the motion sensors to make them cover the most area.

Last 2 years they are charging me 52$ per month and not monitoring for 2 years. They are giving problem cancelling service though contract is over. Still want to charge for one more month. Very poor service. Very disappointed with them. They talk about money back guarantee but charge for not even monitoring for 2 years.

Recently terminated my contract with ADT after 6 years of service. All of the equipment had been paid for in full. After 3 years the equipment had been becoming faulty. For the past year a technician had came to my home at least once a month to repair the system. I had several false alarm calls with th police coming to my home. The costs were charged at a so called three month period at $176.58, in which I received a bill estimated around every two months. Finally I had terminated my contract with ADT after clearly they would not repair the equipment properly. Now after calling ADT on February 1,2017 the representative stated I would a $583.00 early termination fee. This is beyond ridiculous and nothing more then Consumer Fraud. Beyond this I'm still receiving bills stating my service is active, despite having a new security company. Seeking for legal representation and filling a legal complaint or having a complaint endorsed for a Class Action lawsuit.

I received an ADT advertisement in the mail about 5 months ago for the price of $27.99/month and $99 installation. The technician installed 6 sensors and promised me that everything will cost me $27.99/month but it turned out that they have been charging me $48/month on my credit card so I called the company and complained and they told me that another company was involved called DEFENDER. After the technician was finished installing everything he did not even leave me a copy of the contract that I signed but instead verbally promised me that I would be paying $27.99/month. I am a disabled person with limited income which is why I called in the first place to sign up with this company but now it seems like I need to take further action in order to compensate for my losses.

Canceling monitoring service with ADT is a nightmare. After numerous price increases we decided to go with a monitoring service at half the price. When you go though the phone prompts to cancel you get put on hold for 45 minutes or longer. When you finally get someone and say you want to cancel service you mysteriously get cut off. After 3 attempts and 2+ hours we decided to call and ask for new service. We got connected right away and then told the customer service agent we wanted to cancel. They tried to say they had to transfer the call but we did not let them and forced them to cancel service. Luckily we were out of our 3 year contract period.
We thought that was the end of ADT and their over priced service. In the mean time we decided to no longer have monitoring since we live in a gated community. Now every night at 3:10 am the system starts beeping to way that there is trouble with the system. We have to reset the system if we are home otherwise it continues to beep every 10 seconds or so and the system is no longer armed. A error message pops up on the keypad telling you to call ADT at 800-445-0872. When you call they try to get you to sign up for new monitoring service. Only after going around and around will they tell you that since the system is not monitored it will give you the error message. They say the only way to stop it is to power off the system and leave it off. That means that you can not use the system without ADT monitoring it. I searched the internet and find that numerous ex ADT customers have run into this same problem. ADT is literally holding your system hostage which has to be illegal and unethical at the least. They should be forced to come and reprogram or fix the system so that it no longer goes off daily or face a class action lawsuit for millions of $$$ in damages. Anyone with me?

To whom it may concern, I felt before we begin legal procedures it's only fair to contact you. 1 year ago this month we opened a business in a new location and because of the good thing we have heard about ADT we decided to go with your company for our security. We contacted a company what we thought was ADT but was actually a company that represented themselves as ADT (which we didn't find out until a while later). Within the first month of our service we begin to have problems and lost our camera service and alarms, sometimes for many days. The quickest response we got for service repair was 3 days. Another time after that they went blank we had waited days to get someone out there and on the 5th day we had an attempted break in to our office. When the Sherriff came no photos/videos were available and on the 9th day of our service not working we had finally got in contact with an actual ADT representative and that is when I found out that the company who installed this system was NOT ADT. That's when I contacted ADT corporate and they sent someone (Lacy Dunn) to my business, after looking at the system he told me everything installed was very cheap and that the cameras they installed outside were meant for inside use. After spending and hour here the ADT representative done some checking and found that we could move our service to ADT for better service and said our contract was almost up in 3 months with this other company that represents ADT called DEFENDER(which we never knew of any contract). So we waited 3 months like he said and called this DEFENDER company to let them know we are no longer going to be using them and now they are trying to collect 2 more years of service from us before we could switch to ADT. When the very dishonest person we first met who came out and said they were ADT and installed our service and took advantage of my wife, they left us with no terms, links, conditions or any type of contract. Now this is where we are at, it is my understanding that ADT authorizes this DEFENDER company to use their name, first off I think you need to look into this company because they have a 1 star rating and tons of complaints and maybe reconsider them using your name. I have been in business for 35 years and I am one of the highest rated companies in the US and an A+ with the Better Business Bureau. As a business owner I am going to give your company ADT until December 1st 2016 to activate our service through ADT like originally planned and remove this situation with DEFENDER, with documentation to us. If this does not happen I have no other choice than to contact the BBB across the US to flag your company as misrepresentation. I will contact the attorney general to notify them of this situation and last I will turn all this over to my attorneys, not only for our business being broke in to but for the aggravation and frustration in dealing with this contractor. This is not a negotiation these are facts, as I said in the beginning I felt it was only fair to contact someone from ADT who can help me resolve this situation before we proceed with legal action. All I am asking is for ADT to remove this DEFENDER company and provide me with the camera and alarm service I originally thought I was getting. Thank you for your time and I hope we can resolve this matter in a civil and professional way.

We had ADT installed after our truck was broken into. The tech came out and had to continually call for help setting up the system. He kicked two huge holes in our ceiling and my husband had to finish setting up and screwing down the remaining camera due to he had a long drive home and it was getting dark. Just a little over a month after the system was installed the smoke detector went off while we were at work. I received a call from ADT informing of the alarm and was asked if I wanted the fire dept. called. I said yes and told them that I would meet the fire dept. at my house. There was no fire, no smoke, no anything! Ok false alarm, no problem. This happened 2 more times before I caught on to what was happening, but it was too late I was being charged a fee from the city where I reside for false alarms. The last time was all it took. While out at dinner, we received a call from our neighbor stating the alarm was going off, NOT FROM ADT FROMA NEIGHBOR, we called ADT and told them they could shut it off everything was fine. It went off 6 more times before we returned home. We immediately called them and told them to come and get the smoke detector which was 2 weeks later. There was no credit given no extra equipment put in. I was charged for a service call. We continually had issues with our system after this. On Christmas day, the police showed up at our house. They received a panic alert form our alarm...WHAT!? How does that happen? Another false alarm charge added this time it was from the police dept., not the fire dept. On ADT Pulse, we would regularly log on to see what was who or what was at our door, in our yard, etc. while we were at work or just sitting on the couch, and 9 times out of 10 one of our cameras would say OFFLINE. We would call tech support, take all the proper steps and again the next day or maybe just hours later it would happen again. They sent a tech out about 3 weeks later, which they charged me for, and he logged in and supposedly fixed the issue. Back in Aug. 2016 I was letting the dog out and spotted two unfamiliar males walking down the street, I called the dog in and asked my husband to come to the door to watch exactly what these two were up to. One had a large back pack, the other was carrying a large stick. As we watched from the window, they walked behind my husband truck leaned over as to look inside, then walked up and tried the truck door. I was already on the phone with the police as my husband started out to see what they were looking for, of course they took off. None of this was recorded due to both cameras being OFFLINE. Police officer asked if he could view the video that our cameras may have got their face, embarrassed, I told him that they were not working properly at that time. Next day I called ADT explained what had happened and that I wanted it fixed NOW! By this time, we had been with ADT for 2 yrs. and I knew we were coming up on our contract expiration date so I asked for the date of contract expiration, this is when I found out it was for 3 yrs. and not 2 as we were told when installed. A week later the same tech as always comes out and replaces one camera, for a charge of course, and must order another camera. Two weeks later he comes back with another new camera and the first one IS NOT working. Another week goes by and he is back with another camera. As of the time when he left my house you could LIVE view them. Here we are with two brand new out the plastic wrapped box cameras and neither will record LIVE view only. My husband calls, AGAIN, and tech support says we need to reset our system. OK DONE! For, I will say 3 hours, both of my cameras had at least one recording from both. Now one of them is LIVE view only and the other goes back and forth from ONLINE/OFFLINE. If it does record anything you can view it because it shows that the clip is not viewable now. ON NOV. 13, 2016 AT 2:50PM WE WERE THE VICTIMS OF ROBBERY! THE SUSPECT WALKED TO MY DOOR AND RANG MY DOOR BELL, WHICH I HAVE A CAMERA POINT AT MY FRONT DOOR. RETURNED TO HIS TRUCK, BACKED INTO MY DRIVE WAY AND HIM AND HIS HELPER PROCEEDED TO STEAL A TRAILER AND WELDER VALUED AT $8000. THIS ALSO WAS LOCATED DIRECTLY UNDER MY OTHER CAMERA. IT SHOWS THAT THERE WAS VIDEO TAKEN, YOU CAN NOT WATCH IT!!! THE RESPONSE I GET FROM ADT ABOUT THE CANCELLING MY SERVICE DUE TO THIS EVENT, YOUR CONTRACT IS NOT UP AND YOU WILL BE BILLED $500 FOR CANCELLING. I’m sure that I’ve already paid my early termination when my equipment was stolen. Nevertheless, I have stopped ALL bank payments to them. I have informed them I want ALL their equipment out of my house and off my property. I will not pay them another dime. I have more than paid for their services.

ADT is despicable! They have unfair and deceptive billing practices. I have probably talked to 7 different ADT reps this month, each one giving me the runaround about everything. Their favorite tactics are omitting important details about money and avoiding answering questions directly. All I want is the $100 that they owe me for equipment I don't have! I recently moved from Florida to Tennessee. I called ADT to have my service moved up here. The rep on the phone set up a tech to come out and get me all set up. The tech then presented a 3-year contract to sign. I was NEVER informed I would have to sign a new contract. I told the tech never mind. I apologized for inconveniencing him. I could tell this has happened to him a few times. He was very kind about it. Meanwhile, I have paid the balance due on my contract in Florida. ADT wrote me a letter telling me they would debit the remainder of the Florida contract from my bank account, which they did. And that's fine. Those were the terms of the contract. However, ADT mailed me another bill for the Florida contract and they tacked on another random $100. After speaking to four ADT reps tonight, three of them not even knowing what the $100 was for, and each rep being higher up than the last one, I managed to get the fourth rep to waive this random and mysterious $100 that she said was a fee for having the tech come out and me canceling him after he arrived. I was never informed that would happen. I also have no contract with ADT, so how can they have any of my money. I don't even have a receipt or invoice showing what these charges are for, just someone's word over the phone! ADT is run by crooks and thieves! Who can help us sue this wretched company?

I have spent the past few days reading similar complaints submitted by thousands of ADT customers on various sites. I strongly question why a Federal investigation into ADT's deceptive, unethical and dishonest business practices. While I am beyond the life of my contract, I am deeply angered by ADT's "bullying" and threats of destroying customers credit and suing them. I have several acquaintances who were past employees of ADT confirming a company culture of lying, deceptive sales tactics and total disregard in holding up their contractural obligation with service contracts. This culture begins in the executive offices downward to the Technicians. Upselling equipment and signing contracts is priority one.
I will begin with the situation my brother is in. 8 years ago, an event filled his home with thick black smoke. Smoke detector was faulty and did not go off. The installation was done by an "Authorized Reseller" which made the upcoming events even more frustrating. His DSC equipment (circuit board) failed which caused the lan line to be seized. ADT would not talk to him or change out his equipment even under his service agreement. They made him go through his reseller who was no longer in business. His system has been unplugged for 4 years at this point and he is being held to a recurring contract and is still being charged for monitoring.
My situation is a bit more complex. I had existing state of the art hardware (Honeywell) already installed as I am a network hardware perfessional and to this day, seem to know more about their equipment than they do. The zwave card plugged in and connected to the PULSE IHUB. Everything appeared to work fun for 3.5 years until November 2015. One week before going in for back surgery, the PULSE IHUB died. No one could come out before my surgery so I became livid. If ever there was a time to where I needed to utilize the automation and remote access, ADT FAILED MISERIBLY. I was finally able to return home mid December 2015, scheduling a Service Call for late morning December 24th 2015. Technician was incompetent, spent an hour preaching the Bible and infatuated by by both Kirk and Candice Cameron's fundamentalist beliefs. He handed me a piece of paper with 6 ports needing to be opened and left. It took me two months to cool down from that experience. Technician #2 in March 2016, did nothing, lied to me saying "Everything with be online in 24 hrs" and left. It never worked. Tech #3 April 2016 changed out the IHUB and zwave cards with what they call "Pulse Gateway" (rather white labeled piece of Sh*t router by Netgear, installed a new cellular backup device (2G to 4G) and removed 1 of the 2 backup batteries. Again, given the same B.S. excuse to wait 24 hours for my devices to come back online and ran for the door. A few days passed and I called Customer Service/Tech Support. Both very nice people giving two different B.S. excuses. I was told the Senior Installer (Brian) would be out to rectify the situation. This brings me to May when the final Technician arrived and he was not Brian. He tried blowing smoke up my rear end saying the power strip had been in the off position and that the four wires connecting the Gateway to the alarm motherboard were wired in correctly. They sure were! I know this because after Tech #3 left, I took pictures. By this time the life of the backup battery was failing and he knew this. He did not replace it and yes, ran for the door claiming he did not have the proper laptop needed to bring the zwave components online. Complete total lie... No special "equipment" would have been necessary. So Pulse went online 5 min after he left but none of my light switches, plugs, wall modules, thermostat, cameras and door locks were recognized by the system. Tech Support was called and I was told I would need to delete all 25 devices and add them again. Only 5 were recognized at this point. The other 20 will not join so there is something seriously wrong. I do not want any ADT Tech in home ever again! I'm too frustrated to even speak with Customer Service. The next call will be to sever ties with them and go with XFINITY HOME from COMCAST. From the Tech's onsite to the Customer Service/Tech Support Tech, EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM LIED GIVING CONFLICTING STORIES, RIPPING ON THEIR COLLEGUES AND THREATENING TO SEND EACH OTHER TO REMEDIAL TRAINING. Incredibly dysfunctional! So 8 months later at $60 per month for monitoring, my system is still not working. My situation is just one of thousands filed with the BBB. Upon signing that contract, we placed our safety in their hands and they have failed us MISERIBLY! The very company that we TRUST in keeping criminals out of our homes subsequently ARE the very criminal holding us hostage to contracts, defaulting on their areas of the contracts and using illegal tactics in threat inn to destroy our credit and be sued. In closing, ADT is a security company and there are no words for what was done to me, my brother and the thousands out there who have not voiced their horror stories. They must be stopped!

How do we get involved in this lawsuit if you do not live in Florida?

I have Adt and I continue to have power outage which leads to my system not communicating with them. They have no problem keeping me on the phone for lengthy times or sending a technician out. But I was tired of my system not working more than it was supposed too. They want me to pay 75-80% of the remaining contract to cancel with almost 3 yes left. They are a bunch of crooks and do not fulfill their part.

I have the same sort of problem as Lynnet Elliot. ADT's handling of these three year contracts is unacceptable, and must in some way be illegal. They installed a system in rental property, which they are not supposed to do. I must move and even if I take the equipment with me, I will be unable to use it for at least a year. They expect me to pay two more years on a contract for monitoring I can't use at this time, and refuse to defer the services until a time I can use them. Being required to pay for a service I'm not receiving is WRONG, and should be illegal. There definitely needs to be a clas action lawsuit. I would be happy to instigate it, if I knew how!

I have had numerous issues with ADT, including my alarm unpredictably going off without any cause repeatedly, as well as them sending the police out to my house when I tell them that everything is fine. I''m now in the middle of a court dispute with the county sheriffs office for failure to renew my alarm permit that I couldn't do, because I was charged an accumulation of fines for them sending the police out to my house!! ADT has not helped me resolve the matter, so now I am facing a class C misdemeanor from the sheriff's office for this whole mess. It's just absolutely ridiculous...and yes, the whole "I'm sorry, but we can't get a technician out to your house to fix that malfunction" excuse has been used on me MANY times. That's how I got into all of this mess in the first place. The company's a joke.

There needs to be a class action lawsuit against ADT for illegal deception of their 3 year contract. .if you place a move order to transfer your service they try to make you start your 3 year contract over again each time you move. .why even sale to renters who live in apartments. .not all renters stay more than a year in an apartment. .
Let me know when a lawsuit starts for this against ADT

I tried canceling ADT and they wanted $1003.00 to cancel services. It takes a month to a month and a half to fix any issues I have with my cameras or system. Currently there has been vehicle break ins and the cameras in my house caught the suspects, but the DVR will not work on playback. ADT stated it would be a month and half before someone would get out to fix or and replace the DVR.
