A class action lawsuit has been filed against American Airlines on behalf of certain passengers. The suit was filed in regards to claims that the airline is keeping what could be millions of dollars in unused ticket surcharges known as "passenger facility charges" or "passenger security service fees," which are meant to be used for capital improvements and security. The suit claims that when a traveler cancels their plans and gets a refund, the fees are given back, however the airline is keeping the fees from those who don't refund their tickets. "Instead of returning the fees, American keeps them, neither returning them to the proposed passenger nor turning them over to the airport or Transportation Security Administration," according to the plaintiff's attorney. If granted class status, the suit would represent any passenger who purchased tickets on American during the past six years but neither flew nor received a refund.
