Consumers filed a class action lawsuit against the technology company regarding 'rootkit' CD copy protection. The CDs were designed to prevent unauthorized copying of Sony music CDs, but it was nearly impossible to remove without corrupting the operating system, and even allowed malicious users to hide their own programs. According to the terms of the class action settlement, class members may download albums from any one of three major download services as part of their compensation. (Dec-29-05)
